Two common luxury SUV Models include the 2010 Mercedes M-Class and the 2010 BMW X5. Vehicle Manufactures continue designing and implementing additional safety features which is great and I can only hope Manufactures continue their focus on vehicle safety. Learn more about a couple of the newer safety features found in Vehicles of Today.

Safety Feature found in the 2010 BMW X5

The 2010 BMW X5 is one vehicle that’s packed with more and more safety features every year. One safety feature that I’ve always enjoyed is the Electronic Stability Control device which is also found in the X5. This isn’t the newest piece of technology but it has continually been improved and is worth a mention. This device is an electronic technology that will help detect and minimize skidding. Basically when the device senses a loss in control of the steering it will apply brakes to the one or more wheels in order to counter the skid and regain control. Once the appropriate amount of braking is applied to the specific wheels needed, the Driver can then regain control and point the car better in the way the Driver intends. This electronic device will also reduce the power of the engine until the control of the vehicle is regained. The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety has estimated a 1/3 of fatal accidents could have been prevented if in fact this device was installed in all vehicles. In days to come, I can see this being one device that will be found in most vehicles found on the road.

Other safety features found in the 2010 BMW X5 include:

Pretensioner, side airbags, tire pressure monitor, a 4-wheel ABS system, Energy Management Feature, Lower Anchorage for child seats, and other advanced airbag features.

The 2010 Mercedes M-class

I’ve found the Auto Crash Notify feature to be a great addition and also should be installed on all newer vehicles on the market today. This sophisticated system can determine if the vehicle has been in an auto accident by sensors that determine the change in G-forces. Once a crash is determined the system is activated and begins reading several factors which help determine the severity of the crash and injuries that may have resulted. This device will determine airbag deployment, how many occupants in the vehicle and usage of safety belts. Through the use a global positioning satellite the system will also relay information regarding the orientation as well as the location of the vehicle. Passengers in the vehicle will be connected through a voice link to a call center who may help calm passengers and connect them with the appropriate 911 operator servicing that area who may then send out emergency assistance. When it comes to a severe auto collision, response time is an important factor that will determine the outcome of a Passenger’s health and well-being.

Other safety features found in the 2010 M-Class include:

Electronic stability control (as explained above), pretensioner, 4-wheel ABS and Traction control, lower anchorage for child seats, side front airbags, dynamic head restraints, tire pressure monitoring and other advanced airbag features.

Additional Note: Insurance rates between luxury vehicles can vary by several hundred depending on the safety features installed in each vehicle. Vehicles with additional safety features help lower your risk to accidents as well as injury which is why rates for safer vehicles are generally reduced by auto insurers.

Claims are filed for several different reasons. Below are a few claims common to the auto insurance industry.

- Damage to your vehicle or another vehicle you collide with.
- Medical payments for injuries caused to passengers or other drivers.
- Other damages and/or lost wages due to an occurance.

If you have glass coverage and experience a crack to your windshield you will need to make a claim before the Insurer will pay for the installation of a new windshield (assuming you have full glass coverage).

Now in many cases I have found small minor claims like this not to effect your premium. However, every company is different. Now if you file a claim for several $1,000 for damage you caused to your own or another’s vehicle, you most definately will see an increase in your rate. As insured motorists file claims they’re helping the Insurer learn more about your risk level. The more claims filed, the higher the risk.

What if the accident was not my fault?

If the accident was not your fault and the fault of another Driver, their insurance should cover your loss. If that person has no insurance you can have your own insurance company pay for the damage who will then subrograte against the other Driver. You should not experience an increase if the accident was not-at-fault. A great thing to keep on file is documentation stating the fault and other details of the non-fault accident.

What if My Car is Vandalized?

With this type situation, vandalism claim causing an increase in premium will depend on the company. It’s not your fault your vehicle was vandalized and you shouldn’t have to pay more for insurance due to someone elses destructive actions. That’s my opinion. However, some companies may question why your car was where it sat when the vandalism occured. Was it parked on the street? If so that would pose a higher risk compared to if the vehicle owner parked the car in the garage or carport. Was it sitting at an address that you currently reside even though the Insurance company has it on file that you live elsewhere? Sometimes with vandalism these types of questions will come up.

Should I file a Claim?

Claims are never a fun experience. Claims will also put a 3 to 5 year mark on your clue report which is used by all insurance companies to determine your rate. If the damage is minor it’s best to repair it without getting the insurance company involved. I personally will not consider filing a claim if the damage is less than twice or even three times the deductible amount (depending on the deductible).

If the damage is $1000 and my deductible is $500, if I have the money i’ll pay for the loss myself. If a claim will stay on my record for up to five years and my premium is increased by $300 every year what will I end up paying of the next five years?

$300 a year X 5 years = $1,500 not to mention the initial deductible ($500).

So all together I paid out $2000 over five years for my insurance company to fix my $1,000 loss or damage. Now if you have a major loss I would file a claim. For any loss I cannot handle, I’ll file a claim, that’s the whole purpose of auto insurance.

It’s so important to stay alert while driving behind another vehicle. You never know what that other Driver is going to do. Are they going to slam the brakes to avoid that puppy crossing the road? It happens every day. It seems like most accidents I see on the road are rear-enders. Some happen from people following to closely or sometimes just from paying less attention on the road. Either way if your caught “slippin” it’s wouldn’t it be nice to have a good set of brakes to help avoid these collisions. If you rear-end someone 9 times out of 10 you will end up being found negligent. This can effect your driving record as well as your insurance claims history. After doing a little research online about brakes and braking systems these are some useful tips I’ve found.

Selecting Your Brake Pads:

When it comes to brake pads you will have a few choices. You’ll find yourself choosing between semi-metallic, metallic and ceramic. Semi-Metallic and metallic pads are known to grind up your rotors pretty bad not to mention leave a mess of dust around your rim and tires. There are organic pads which are very clean, however they do have a shorter life span than most pads. Ceramic pads are a favorite by many motorists who want a clean, efficient braking system that will hang in there for a good while.

Choosing Rotors

Rotors are the shiny metal disc that your brake pads will push up or squeeze against to stop your vehicle. Most vehicles you purchase, new or used, will come with the basic stock rotors which are effective and get the job done of course. However, manufactures have come out with a few other types that you may want to consider if braking performance is something you would like to invest in.

X-drilled-Slotted Rotors

These aftermarket X-drilling rotors greatly improves brake response, these rotors will actually give your new brake pads the ability to cool down during contact with the rotor. The slots work in a way where they clear the pad face and rid the excess glaze created by the friction during pad contact. Brake performance and pad life is found to be increased with the use of these rotors.

Dimple Drilled-Slotted Rotors

Dimple Drilling allows the rotors to perform with some cooling but not too much cooling. Some find that too much change in temperature can cause a rotor to crack. Dimple drills help stabalize the temperature without the excessive heat cycling. This rotor design is a favorite to many and has proven it’s effectiveness time and time again.

While driving on public streets having a good braking system will help stop your vehicle in certain cases. However, it’s always best to remain alert and never follow to closely to the vehicle in front of you. You just never know what they will do next. Vehicles can be deadly machines which must be handled and operated with care. Low-insurance.org provides comparison insurance quotes as well as several tips to help save more on auto insurance. However, one of the best ways to maintain a low insurance rate is by driving safe and remaining accident free.

Finding the lowest rates isn’t as hard as it once was. Remember the good old days when you had to call around from one company to the next getting insurance quotes for the coverage you needed? I remember the first time I called around from one agent to the next in search for the best rate. What a process that was. It had to take about an hour or two before I could successfully get rates from about 5 or 6 companies. The truth is I cannot remember exactly how long it took me to find the right company, i just remember it being a process and I’m glad the internet has made this process easier for you and me with the comparitive rating systems that are out today. Today shoppers can get a quote online within 6 to 10 minutes. Shoppers who want the best rate utilize comparison shopping services as well as a few single direct quotes.

We Provide 3 Ways To get Auto Insurance Quotes:

1. Shoppers with prior coverage are encouraged to check out our online insurance quote selection where Drivers can compare side-by-side quotes between several companies.

2. We also provide the option to get quotes from several local agents.

3. Our last option gives the shopper the opportunity to select a local Independent Agent of their choice.

The Benefit Of Working With An Independent Agent

Independent Agents will shop your insurance using several major insurance carriers. Independent insurance carriers include companies such as Progressive, Travelers, The Hartford, Metlife and several others. The independent Agent will find the company offering the best rate for the coverage you need. If a few years down the line you want to re-shop your insurance, the Agent can easily bring up your file and re-quote your insurance with the companies. Rating structures change over time which makes it very important to compare rates from time to time.

If you would like an Independent Agency to quote your auto insurance today simply request a quote using our Independent Agency Quote selection. We will send your auto insurance quote request to the Agency you select. I personally have saved several hundred a year by switching to using the services of my local independent Agent.

After the quote has been submitted you will also be provided with a list of companies you may want to research quotes with online while you await the quote request from your local agent.

This is a common question asked by many who are in the process of shopping around for coverage. Many Drivers go for the state minimum coverage. There are many ways to save on insurance, asking for the minimum coverage probably shouldn’t be one of them. For twice the liability coverage you’re only going to see a very slight increase in premium. If you are driving a beater, have no assets and feel your already struggling financially, state minimum coverage is a good place to start. When you do become more financially secure and begin building assets, it’s very important to increase your coverage to protect yourself. The goal is to have enough coverage to satisfy the claim so your own property won’t be at risk if the other Driver were to take you to court.

How many people drive without Insurance?

Did you know that it’s been estimated that the uninsured rate will increase from about 13% to 16% in 2010? That’s huge! If 16% of drivers are driving with no coverage there’s a good chance someone that crashes into you just may not have any coverage. With this in mind you may want to add collision and comprehensive coverage to your policy. This way if an uninsured motorist totals your vehicle your own policy will cover the loss instead of being left without a car. If the other Driver can’t afford auto insurance there’s a good chance they can’t afford to buy you a car to replace the one they totaled.

Explain How Auto Liability Coverage Works:

During the quote process you will be asked to select your limits of liability. These limits vary from state to state. If you’re in Arizona your state minimum limit requirement is 15/30/10. With this coverage if you are negligent in an auto accident this is how these limits would work. (15) $15,000 paid by your Insurer for one person’s injuries not to exceed (30) $30,000 for all injuries. (10) $10,000 or coverage for damage caused to the vehicle you hit. There are so many cars on the road today worth well over $10,000 and the cost of bad injury can exceed $15,000 in no time flat.

This is why it’s recommended to increase these limits to better protect you in the event something does happen. To save more on auto insurance consider these auto insurance tips.

Comparison Shop for Insurance

Insurance premiums between companies vary big time; sometimes up to $1000 a year. This is why it’s important to re-shop your coverage from time to time. Our site provides a way for you to comparison shop they way you want to. Compare rates online or request quotes from several local Agents.

Shop Early

The earlier you shop for auto insurance the better off you will be. If your current policy doesn’t expire for over 2 weeks, the Insurance Company who is providing you with a quote is going to want to work with you even that much. You’re a responsible driver who takes care of your insurance priorities in a timely manner. There will be an opposite effect if you try to shop for insurance 5 or 6 days after your prior policy has lapsed. One more option is to pay for your policy to begin on a future date. Let’s say you find a good quote on the 15th but need your new insurance to go into effect on the 30th. If you purchase this policy on the 15th you may be eligible for a future effective date discount offered by many insurance companies.

Combining Policies

Many Insured’s will combine their auto and home insurance coverage with the same insurance company. This will earn the insured a discount on their auto coverage. Although this works in many cases it doesn’t work in all cases. When getting quotes for both your auto and home be sure to compare the best package to the best individual quotes. Is insurance package with company ‘C’ better than auto insurance with company ‘A’ and homeowners insurance with company ‘B’?

Be Honest about Driving History

The insurance Agent is going to learn about each and every ticket or accident on your record whether you mention it or not. You want your comparison quotes to be rated accurately the first time around so you don’t feel you need to do it all over again. Basically every Agent that gives you a quote will begin by going off the information you give them. If you decide you want to go with an Agent they will then pull your MVR and Clue records prior to issuing the policy.

You’re not alone. This unfortunate issue happens for many and the results can be costly. The absolute worst case scenario is learning about a lapse in coverage after an auto accident. It happens every day.
Forgetting a bill here or there has happened for many. However, it is especially important to set your auto insurance payments with automatic payments from your checking account; and here’s why. Not only will your payment be made automatically, most insurance companies will offer a discount for paying your premium this way. They reward you for relieving them of the responsibility of sending, receiving and processing your payments each and every month.

So let’s say you had a tough month and you accidentally bounced from your automatic payment. So the bank charges you a $35 plus or minus overdraft fee. Ouch. This is much better than finding out about a lapse in your coverage after crashing into some Lady’s Benz.

How Does a Lapse Affect My Rate?

Well, the answer to this question is “enough”. You’ll find a large enough difference between a quote with prior compared to a quote without prior. Depending how long ago your insurance coverage lapsed is also going to matter. If you haven’t had coverage for a couple weeks or even a month, several companies out there will not insure you. You may be limited to the number of companies you’ll be able to receive quotes from. If you recently lapsed by mistake call your Insurance company, explain your story and do what you can to get your policy reinstated. A mid-term lapse is much easier to work with compared to insuring a Driver with no prior coverage. One question every Agent will ask during the quoting process is, “How long have you had continuous coverage and with Whom”.

Avoiding Lapse with Credit (Careful with this Option)

I don’t think too much of credit cards. I’ve never been a fan of credit cards. When I was 18 I had one credit card and it can only be used for Big O Tire purchases in the unfortunate case I get a flat someday and had no money for the repair. I do believe one other great reason to have a credit card is to pay for insurance. With the use of a credit card you will reduce your risk of lapsing your coverage. With buying your insurance “in full” for the term of the policy guess what, you also get that wonderful paid in full discount. This can bring a $1000 total premium down to $800. Not too shabby. This may also be a great way to build up your score. Just don’t max out your card or anything, play it smart. I’ve always been told never to charge over half of my credit limit and always make double payments. If your using it for paying insurance premium you’ll need to determine the amount you’ll need to pay on your card monthly so there will be no balance left over at the end of your policy term.

Like I just mentioned, play it smart, be careful and you’ll come out ahead.

Studies have always shown young drivers to be at high risk behind the wheel. While feels unfair to some, the stories I am about to share may shed some light on why insurance companies rate Teen Drivers the way they do.

Today I went to google news and did a search for “teen driver” just to see what popped up. Here are some of the stories and articles that were pulled.

A Teen Driver who was charged in a deadly Oakland crash

Apparently a 17 year old boy was charged with manslaughter for the death caused to a 66 year old woman. This young teen was driving a stolen camry trying to run from two gang suppression units.

Teen Driver hits Bus

The second story just below this one was about a Teen who crashed into a bus. This 16 year old driver was driving in tough weather conditions for the first time. She was unable to stop her car on the ice and hit the back of a bus.

Teen Smashes into 3 Cars

Another breaking story discusses how a Teen Driver finally came to a stop after smashing into three cars. This Teen was found to be intoxicated over 7 times the alcohol limit.

This page has updated since with more wrecks and sad case stories. Just yesterday I read about a female Teen in Phoenix who, “for a fun game” decided to play chicken with her brother in a parking lot. She ended up accidentally running over him. He died soon after the incident.

A Cheap Auto Insurance for your Teen

So if your a Teen Driver sit down with them and explain the importance of safe driving. If you are trying to find an affordable auto insurance for a teen, there are only a few things you and your Teen can do to help reduce these rates that have been set so high. Show the Insurance company your Teen is responsible. Have your teen take driving courses to begin building that trust. Another way your rates will be reduced is if your Teen driver can carry a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Having good grades is a great way to express responsibility. Many parents will start their teens on an older car. This way you can insure the Teen on a vehicle that only needs liability coverage. If your teen is insured on a newer vehicle with full coverage, the difference in premium is significantly higher compared to an older vehicle with liability only coverage. If your in the market for an older vehicle for your Teen Driver consider a small to mid-size car with better than average safety features.

When it comes time to get a quote for your Teen Driver, as always, one of the best ways to be sure your getting the best rate is to compare quotes from different companies. Here at low-insurance we provide a few ways for shoppers to compare rates online as well as locally. How you want to compare rates is your choice. We have the tools to help assist you. Thanks for visiting and I wish you luck with your comparison shopping efforts.

One common question asked by those shopping for auto insurance is, “Which deductible should I choose?” In most cases you will need to select two deductibles, one for collision and one for comprehensive coverage. Just a quick overview on collision and comprehensive coverage, collision coverage pays for damages to your vehicle in the event of a car accident; comprehensive coverage pays for damages to your vehicle caused by anything other than a collision such as theft, vandalism or hail damage.

The deductible will be the amount you will need to pay before the insurance company will issue any checks for damages to your vehicle. If your collision causes $5000 worth of damage and your deductible is $500, you will need to pay this amount before the insurance company pays on that claim. If the damages are only about $700 you may want to pay the damages without the insurance company since it would be only $200 more than your initial deductible. Would you really want to put a mark on your insurance claims history for $200? Could this $700 claim possibly cause your rates to increase? These are things to think about when faced with property damage you must repair.

So which deductible should you choose?

This really depends on how much you can pay in the event of a loss. The higher deductible you choose, the lower your premium will be. However, if you select a $1,000 deductible and total your vehicle, can you come up with $1000 easily? The most common deductibles chosen are $250, $500 and $1,000.

For comprehensive deductibles I generally select a higher deductible since most damages I can see happening are less costly. However, there’s always the chance of your vehicle being stolen. Take a close look at your comprehensive risks and then decide. Do you park on the street or in a garage? Is your place of work secure are have there been several car thefts or acts of vandalism? You’ll of course want to determine the risk of the car you drive. Do you drive a newer vehicle? What is your car’s value?

With the collision deductible I generally select the highest deductible I can afford to pay out of pocket at anytime of the month. If you have a clean driving record and drive extra safe, you may be well off with a higher deductible. If history has shown you’ve made mistakes in the past but haven’t changed your way of driving since, a lower deductible may be the way to go. If you don’t have much money saved up, you may want to make it a goal to save up $1,000 and put it away in a savings account just in case you need to pay your deductible in the event a loss occurs. Once you have your $1,000 saved, increase your deductible and save a little more on your premium.

2010 is upon us and what better time to begin saving money on auto insurance. Below are a few ways you can go about reducing your insurance costs and maintaining low cost premiums for 2010.

2010, A good year to shop around…

So many people I’ve talked to say, “I’ve been with so-and-so company for 20 years, I’m not sure if I want to change.” Yes, sometimes change can be scary. However change can be good also. I recently worked a case where I helped a shopper who was with their prior for many years get set up with an ‘A’ rated insurance carrier offering quadruple the coverage at the same price they were currently paying. This client went from just above state minimum limits to 100/300 limits of liability. You can click the following link to learn more about liability auto insurance.

Tis the Season to Combine Policies…

Did you know it’s actually possible to get an auto home package for less than the auto insurance alone. Take for example a family with two teen drivers who pay $3000 a year. Let’s say they packaged their auto and homeowners with the same company to save 15% on their auto insurance. $3000 minus 15% = $2550. Now lets say the homeowners quote comes to $400. Now that customer is paying $2950 a year for both auto and homeowners insurance. If your a young driver paying the high rates and you currently rent you can do this, request a standalone auto quote and an auto + renters quote. You may find a similar situation.

Are your a Speed Racer?

This one took years for me to learn how to do. Not everyone has a lead foot but growing up through my early 20s, I had an open stretch of highway between work and home. Not that having an open stretch of highway is any excuse to speed but I did build a nice collection of speeding tickets during that time. If you happen to have the need for speed maybe it’s time to slow it down and live a bit more cautious. There are too many good people out there who have lost their lives and sometimes their freedom due to the bad driving choices they’ve made. If you keep all your racing at the track, not only will you see your tickets slowly come off your record, the risk of getting in an auto collision and harming yourself or others will also be far less which will result in greatly reduced auto insurance rates.

About our system:

Low-insurance.org provides a way for shoppers to either request a comparison auto insurance quote from a local agent or request an online comparison quote and easily view rates online. The choice is yours. Begin saving for 2010 and get your comparison car insurance quote today.
