Homeowners insurance rates vary from state to state as living in different areas will bring various risks. If you’re on the coast or in tornado alley, rates will be a bit more compared to places with calm weather or less risk. Insurers also focus in on the side of town you live.

If you live in an area with a lower crime rate you’ll notice a lower insurance rate compared to a home across town in an area prone to theft and reports of break-ins. Below are the average annual premiums for homeowners insurance by state. These premiums were averages taken from 2008 records. As we come across more recent data we will add it to the recent column.

A standard homeowners policy comes packed with a variety of different coverage. Here are the basic outline of coverage you will find included on a typical homeowners policy.

Coverage (A): Dwelling

Coverage (A) protects the home itself and anything attached to the home. Generally, your homeowners insurance policy will pay up to the policy limit in the event of damages caused by fire and storms. Tornadoes, hurricanes and other natural disasters may be covered depending on the company and policy. In some areas you may need a separate policy for additional coverage from natural disaster.

Coverage (B): Other Structures

Coverage (B) provides protection for other structures around the property. These structures must not be attached, such as an unattached garage, shed, storage room, etc. Coverage limit is based on a percentage of the coverage A limits.

Coverage (C): Unscheduled Personal Property

This part of your homeowners policy covers damage to your personal items you own. Most home policies limit coverage for personal property up to 75% of the coverage A limit. So if your policy provides $100,000 in coverage for the dwelling, you can have up to $75,000 in personal property coverage. Certain policies may only cover the depreciated value of these items so keep this in mind. Some policies will provide replacement cost coverage.

Coverage (D): Loss of Use

Coverage (D) makes for a great addition to any home policy. This coverage reimburses you for the additional expense you incur while your home remains uninhabitable due to a covered loss. While your home is being worked on, you may need to stay at a hotel which can be costly over the course of a week or two.

Coverage (E): Personal Liability

This is also a great benefit to having a home policy. Personal liability provides coverage in the event that another person brings forth a lawsuit against you. This may be from bodily injury caused or property damage that is the result from the homeowners negligence. Dog bites are one of the most common claims filed against homeowners. The insurance information institute estimates that one-third of all liability claims are brought on due to dog bites.

Coverage (F): Medical Payments

Medical payments will provide coverage for injury if a third party is injured by your personal property or while on your property. $5,000 is a common base limit used for medical payments coverage. This limit can be increased by the insured.

Certain items such as coins, firearms artwork and jewelry will have a specific limit of coverage based on the policy you select. Most companies provide up to $200 coverage for money (coins). If you have a rare collection it would be wise to add a rider to your policy. The rider is also known as Scheduled Personal Property which provides additional coverage for specific personal possessions.

How is the pay as you go automobile insurance computed in the state of Oregon? Discounts are given. Some insurance companies base their premium rates on mileage or some kind of time-based schedule. Oregon favors this and offers tax credits to encourage it. This is a good incentive for drivers to use this type of policy.

An insurance company does not automatically receive tax credits for pay as you go policies. A formal program must be set up first. Then the company has to use time of day or number of miles to calculate the premium rates. The ultimate goal is to allow drivers who travel limited distances to pay less for their automotive insurance. This is a reward for reducing greenhouse gas and excessive use of fuel.

What is Available in Oregon?

It is not surprising that this is not an extensively available policy. There are 134 insurance companies in the state. There are only three that offer pay as you drive policies for personal automobile drivers. There are more that offer them for business vehicles, however. Technical requirements are, a logging device installed in your car and a port to plug it into.

Consider Three Insurance Companies and the Programs they Offer

Travelers Home and Marine gives a three percent discount. You can receive a 20 percent discount in addition. You have to drive under six miles a week to get it. National General Assurance Company makes it available for OnStar customers. There are six discount levels that range between five and fifty percent.
The third is Progressive Universal, which offers between five percent and 25 percent as a discount. The amount is based on total mileage and the time of day or night you drive. Your discount is reevaluated each time you renew your automotive coverage.

What Are the Facts About Accident Forgiveness?

The amount a driver pays for automobile insurance is based on a number of factors. One of the most crucial is your driving record including whether you have had speeding tickets, moving violations or an actual collision. The risk you pose as a potential high risk to the insurer determines how much they require you to pay. If the insurer offers accident forgiveness it is an incentive to purchase your insurance policy from them. Possibly, this will convince you to switch your coverage from another insurance company to their insurance company.

Accident Forgiveness

An offer of accident forgiveness is not the company overlooking the fact someone has an accident on his or her record. It is however, an offer to compute the amount you will pay for insurance without including that fact in the computation. This is a good reason for you to take out insurance from them to save money over insurance from a company that does not offer accident forgiveness.

It is not a way to remove your accident history from your record. If, at a later time you decide to change to another insurer, the accident may not be “forgiven” when that insurance company calculates your premium. This is a good incentive for you to stay with the insurer that does offer it. If enough drivers take their business to them, they will actually profit from giving this price break.

How Much Money Can You Save?

As you may know, only liability automobile insurance is required by law. This protects the other driver in case of accident. You may elect to purchase collision coverage, which covers your own vehicle’s damage. This usually includes fire and theft coverage as well as towing insurance. Therefore, you must analyze the entire cost when comparing prices from company to company. The insurer who includes accident forgiveness does not necessarily charge the lowest premium for your total insurance package.

Eligibility for the accident forgiveness feature is not automatic. Not every driver is going to qualify to receive it. Different insurance companies may have different requirements.

Insurance providers offer a variety of different home insurance packages, not all of these home policies offer replacement cost coverage on your property. A replacement cost home insurance policy will help you bridge the gap to avoid having too little coverage in the future due to inflation in the event of a covered loss.

Also, with an actual cash value policy your insurance claim will be assessed at fair market value. Some things that are covered by your home policy may have depreciated in value over the years so you may not receive enough from your insurance claim to cover or replace certain items that broke, got damaged or lost. By selecting a homeowners replacement value insurance policy, you’ll be in a safer position by having items, which are lost or destroyed, replaced with a like-kind item without much less worry about about the fair value of the item – as you would be a little more concerned with an actual cash value or ACV policy.

Most Agents will provide quotes for replacement cost home insurance policy. To find the lowest home insurance policy be sure to comparison shop agents and major insurance companies.

Also be sure to compare quote offers between both stand-alone home insurance policies and auto + home packages. By comparing all of your options, finding a the cheapest homeowners insurance solutions is within your reach.

Have you ever wondered who really has the cheapest car insurance rates? If you ask an agent they may tell you, “It depends on the Driver”, and that Agent would be absolutely right – but how about a hint. Insurance companies target different age groups and various types of drivers and they also consider the amount of coverage they prefer to write.

Provided below is some information to help give you a basic idea of what insurance company has the cheapest auto insurance based on age alone. I cannot guarantee these are the cheapest insurance companies for you, however I’ve had the opportunity to quote several different types of drivers and these are some of the trends I’ve seen.

Trends Show Who Has The Best Auto Insurance Offer By Age

The Cheapest Car Insurance For Seniors
Senior drivers with clean driving records may spend less than $200 a year on auto insurance – with the right company. Some companies are notorious for saving older drivers money include The Hartford, Travelers and Metlife. Farmers is also a favorite amongst the more experienced drivers. Farmers rates can be competitive and they are also great with service and claims handling…

The Cheapest Car Insurance For Young Married Couples
Metlife, Progressive and Geico are some companies offering great rates for married couples. Metlife Auto & Home may be the winning choice if you have no marks on your driving record. Progressive and Geico generally offer competitive rates to younger drivers with their rates being even further discounted if you’re married.

The Cheapest Car Insurance For Young Single Drivers

I’ve found Progressive, Geico and 21st Century to offer very competitive premiums to younger drivers. There are also plenty of local Agents out there who promote buying state minimum coverage and offer cheap rates to young drivers who just need the state required liability.

Know What Company Wants Your Business!

If you pay close attention to commercials you’ll find that insurance companies will let you know what type of drivers they want to insure. In many cases the cheaper car insurance will come from the company that is targeting you as a customer.

Have you seen the Travelers commercial with the dog who dreams up nightmares about his bone being stolen? Who is Travelers targeting? The answers simple – people who are more concerned about protecting their valuables rather than the price of the policy. Progressive on the other hand promotes the idea that they have the lowest prices. They communicate this with their price gun and their “name your own price” campaign. There are also companies promoting the idea of insuring you just enough to be legal and seem to have no concern over the amount of coverage you buy.

Perform A Thorough Quote Comparison For The Lowest Rates

Patience, never let yourself be satisfied with one or two quotes. The range of premiums offered by companies for one person’s coverage is truly staggering. Where one company charges $2000 a year, another may only charge $600. This is a very common range in premium you’ll see after comparing quotes between 8-10 companies.

The best way to find out who really has the cheapest car insurance is by comparing quotes from multiple companies both online and with local insurance agents.

Here Are 3 Ways We Help Shoppers Compare Quotes

Multiple Local Quotes

Start by entering your zip-code above. You may then choose to request insurance quotes from up to 5 local agents with only having to fill out a single secure form online. Up to five local agents will go to work for you to get you the auto insurance you need at the lowest price possible.

Find The Cheapest Car Insurance Quotes Online

If you prefer to review quotes online instead of receiving quotes from multiple agents, we also provide the online option. Enter your zip and select online direct quotes so you may review insurance carriers serving your area who can provide you with instant quotes.

Call Your Local Independent Agent

Connect with a local independent agent.

To determine how much coverage to buy its best to simply ask yourself, what can I lose if I seriously injured another person and that person came back around to try and take anything they can from me to help pay for the financial damages. If I wanted to get the absolute best auto insurance for more financial protection, how would I go about this?

Dismemberment of an arm or leg could cost several hundred thousand for hospitalization alone. Then you have to think, can this person carry on their job after recovery. If not, who’s going to pay for the loss of income? Another worse case scenario; what if the other driver dies leaving a family to go on without him or her and without a monthly income?

These are the worse case scenarios which do happen every day.

If you choose to buy the best insurance coverage to protect your assets, you may want to also insure yourself with an umbrella policy. Umbrellas are much more affordable than you may think and you get a huge amount of coverage so you no longer have to worry about losing everything you’ve worked so hard earning.

So what exactly is an umbrella policy?

The umbrella insurance is a liability insurance policy that will protect both the Insured’s assets and future income above and beyond the standard limits of the policy holders auto liability coverage. This coverage may also fill in gaps where your standard auto policy does not cover. Generally an umbrella policy is sold in increments on one million dollars. Not only will it help cover auto liability claims but can also cover homeowner claims as well, hence the term umbrella (multiple lines of insurance under the umbrella).

For more complete protection, in regards to umbrellas, there are limit requirements prior to being able to buy an umbrella policy. These limits may be a little different from one insurance company to the next.

For example, an insurance carrier may require you carry minimum $250,000/$500,000 of (BI) bodily injury coverage on your auto liability limits before becoming eligible to purchase an umbrella policy.

Our insurance quote system supports both local rate comparisons and national rate comparisons. We recommend you work with a local agent for coverage with higher than average limits of liability. To get the best coverage for the most competitive price our system will allow you started by comparing auto insurance quotes between 4 to 5 local insurance agents. To begin your quote simply enter your zip-code above and follow our simple online quote form.

A common question asked by drivers who need insurance is, “what can I do to get the lowest rates possible?” We made our way to the North Dakota Department of Insurance and here’s some of the tips provided for drivers wanting to pay the least for auto insurance in North Dakota.

1. Shop around.

Insurance rates are generally based upon your driving experience. It is truly beneficial to shop your insurance with multiple companies to get the best rate. The Department of Insurance in North Dakota also expressed that it’s good to start by finding an agent that you can trust. Here’s a list of independent agents in North Dakota ready to service your insurance needs.

2. Improve your credit.

North Dakota is one state that currently allows insurance companies to take credit score into consideration. Some states have discussed doing away with this rating factor. However, improving your credit score will also help bring a lower insurance cost.

3. Adjusting Coverage

Adjusting your insurance coverage is something you may want to consider as many pay for too much coverage. If you have an older car you may not need the collision and comprehensive coverage. You may also want to elect to have a higher deductible. This will also help lower your rates.

4. Drive Defensively

You want to prevent the possibility of having a car accident or insurance claim if at all possible. According to the Department of Insurance in North Dakota, voluntarily attending an approved course in defensive driving will make you eligible for an auto insurance discount.

If you would like to compare quotes between multiple agents in North Dakota, enter your zip and select the
